The Basic Citizenship Test is meant for those who intend to settle in the Netherlands fora n extensive period of time(for family reasons, education or work) and who require a three months’ visa (in Dutch called ‘Machtiging tot voorlopig verblijf’ (MVV) – Permit Temporary Stay).
Final result
Having finished the course means that you have acquired the knowledge of Dutch society, culture and language you need for being able to sit for the test in your native country or the country where you are currently staying. After passing the test you can apply for the three months’ visa (MVV)
Course content
The official Basic Citizenship Test consists of the following parts: ‘Knowledge of Dutch Society’ (KNS), ‘Test Spoken Dutch’ (TGN). Part of TNG is the subjects ‘Literacy’ and ’Reading Comprehension’ (GBL). The latter subject will be added to and thus be part of the new exam programme as from 1 April 2010. The structure of the course, the wide range of exercises and ample practice guarantee the best possible preparation for the test.

If you wish to order the study package in Arabic but do not master the Latin alphabet, you should order the booklet ‘Van letters naar klanken’ (From letters to sounds), published by NCB to learn the Latin alphabet. The test
Studieplan does not organise the Basic Citizenship Test, but merely prepares you for it. The exam can be taken at the Dutch Embassy or a Consulate in your home country.
